Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone may deliver the company’s most substantial front-facing redesign since the iPhone X. Early information attributed to Digital Chat Station suggests that the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max will combine displays curved along all four edges with a compact pill-shaped camera cutout.
The standard Pro model is reportedly being tested with a 6.41-inch panel offering a resolution of 2686 × 1236 pixels. The Pro Max could use a 6.96-inch display with 2912 × 1340 pixels. These panels would be slightly larger than the 6.3- and 6.9-inch screens found on the current Pro models, although the phones themselves may not grow significantly. Apple could gain the extra display area by reducing the visible frame and letting the glass flow gently toward the surrounding metal.
Unlike the aggressively curved “waterfall” screens previously used by some Android manufacturers, Apple’s implementation is expected to be more subtle. The concept images show a controlled, almost continuous transition between display and chassis, creating the impression of a single polished surface. Samsung is reportedly helping Apple develop the panel, while Samsung Display and LG Display are working to limit brightness loss around its curved sections.
The other major change concerns the Dynamic Island. Apple may replace its familiar elongated cutout with a much smaller pill or dot for the selfie camera, moving at least part of the Face ID hardware beneath the display. Visually, this would free the interface from the oversized black capsule that has defined recent iPhones and make the anniversary models feel closer to an uninterrupted sheet of glass.
Apple is also said to be experimenting with removing the display’s traditional polarizer, potentially allowing for a thinner construction and improved efficiency. However, these devices remain in development ahead of an expected September 2027 debut. Previous reports claimed both Face ID and the camera would disappear entirely beneath the screen, so the final design could still change considerably before production begins.
