Motorola’s next foldable appears designed to sit somewhere between the experimental attitude of the RIZR and the more mature formula introduced by the Razr Fold. Teased shortly after Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, the mysterious device adopts a short and unusually wide silhouette, moving away from the tall, remote-control proportions associated with most book-style foldables.
Shown almost entirely in shadow, the phone reveals a compact body that opens into a near-square internal display. Its proportions recall the RIZR philosophy of transforming a pocketable device into a larger canvas, although this time Motorola is relying on a conventional hinge rather than the rollable screen demonstrated by its earlier concept. The result looks more practical, while retaining some of the mechanical theatre that has historically defined Motorola’s more adventurous devices.
The rear design is equally interesting. A camera island appears to stretch across the full width of the body, creating a more visually balanced silhouette than the offset bumps used by the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold8. This arrangement could also reduce wobbling when the phone is placed on a table and provide additional space for larger sensors or even a dedicated telephoto camera. In profile, however, the prototype still looks relatively thick, especially around the camera section.
Motorola accompanied the teaser with the pointed slogan, “New in their hands. Iconic in ours.” It is an obvious response to Apple, but also a reminder of the company’s long history of transforming phone form factors through RIZR, Razr and, more recently, Razr Fold. Specifications and a launch date remain unknown, but the teaser suggests Motorola wants its wide foldable to feel less like an iPhone Duo alternative and more like the next chapter in its own design lineage.
