The first leaked renders of the Fairbuds 2 reveal a substantial redesign for Fairphone’s upcoming repairable wireless earbuds. Expected to launch during the fourth quarter of 2026, the new model appears in black and dark green finishes, while retaining the company’s familiar in-ear format.
The most obvious change is the addition of stems. The original Fairbuds featured compact, rounded bodies, but their successors adopt a more conventional silhouette similar to many current TWS earbuds. The stems look wide and angular rather than thin, giving the Fairbuds 2 a more industrial design that still feels consistent with Fairphone’s practical approach.
The charging case is also taller and noticeably bulkier than before. It is unclear how Fairphone will use the additional internal space, although it could accommodate a larger battery than the 500mAh unit inside the original case. The leaked images also appear to show easily accessible components inside the case, potentially supporting the modular construction.
Fairphone has already described the Fairbuds 2 as modular, but it has not confirmed which components users will be able to replace. Their predecessors allowed owners to swap seven different parts, including the batteries inside both earbuds and the case, individual earbuds, silicone rings, ear tips and the case’s outer shell. Most competing stem-style earbuds use glued-in batteries, so maintaining this repairability could be the new model’s defining feature.
The original Fairbuds offered 11mm titanium-coated drivers, active noise cancellation, six microphones, Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint connectivity, IP54 protection and up to 26 hours of total playback. Technical specifications and pricing for the Fairbuds 2 remain unknown, but the leaked renders suggest Fairphone wants to preserve its sustainability-focused identity while giving the earbuds a more familiar and potentially more comfortable design.
