HomePod mini 2 leak reveals five colors, but the real upgrade may be inside

The HomePod mini could finally be getting its first proper update since 2020. MacRumors says it found images in Apple’s code that explicitly identify a “HomePod mini 2.” They show five finishes: green, pink, blue, white and black. Yellow and orange appear to be leaving the lineup, while the new blue looks lighter than the current version.

Anyone expecting a new shape may be disappointed. The images retain the original speaker’s compact, fabric-covered body and illuminated touch surface. The color change is the clearest visible difference, and the files do not reveal how the new model sounds.

The more interesting changes remain rumors. A newer chip is expected to replace the original HomePod mini’s S5 processor, and the speaker has been linked to Apple’s more capable Siri. Those upgrades could matter far more in daily use than a fresh shade of green, but the leaked images confirm neither a processor nor any AI features. Claims about Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 are also unconfirmed.

The appearance of product images in Apple’s code suggests an announcement may be close, with reports pointing to a launch before the end of 2026. Apple has yet to announce the HomePod mini 2, its release date or its price. For now, the leak gives us a convincing look at its exterior; whether this becomes a worthwhile upgrade depends on what Apple puts inside.
