Samsung appears ready to blur the line between its mainstream and Ultra flagships in 2027. Newly leaked CAD-based renders of the Galaxy S27 Pro reveal a phone that borrows heavily from the redesigned Galaxy S27 Ultra, particularly around the cameras, while squeezing that visual identity into a noticeably smaller and potentially more comfortable package.
At first sight, the Galaxy S27 Pro could almost pass for a compact S27 Ultra. Samsung has carried over the Ultra’s most controversial new design element: the raised camera plateau that groups the rear sensors into a more prominent island. It’s a significant departure from the individually floating camera rings Samsung has favored for several generations, and it gives both premium S27 models a much stronger family resemblance. On the Pro, however, the camera section looks proportionally larger because it occupies more of the smaller rear panel.
Size is where the two phones begin to tell very different stories. The Galaxy S27 Pro reportedly measures 154.06 x 73.77 x 7.95mm and is expected to feature a roughly 6.6-inch display. That would make it around 9mm shorter and 5mm narrower than the 6.9-inch Galaxy S27 Ultra. The Pro also drops the integrated S Pen slot, allowing Samsung to preserve the cleaner silhouette without having to accommodate the stylus hardware. In other words, this isn’t simply an Ultra that has been scaled down — its proportions should make it feel much closer to a conventional flagship.
The distinction could become even clearer once we look beyond the CAD files. The S27 Ultra is expected to remain Samsung’s no-compromise camera phone, while the Pro may use less ambitious hardware, potentially including a 12MP 3x telephoto camera instead of the Ultra’s rumored 50MP 5x unit. Battery capacity is similarly expected to drop from around 5,700mAh on the Ultra to approximately 5,200mAh. Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Exynos 2700 configurations have both been mentioned in leaks, although Samsung’s regional chipset strategy remains unclear.
Design-wise, though, the Galaxy S27 Pro may end up being the more interesting addition to the family. The Ultra still has the visual presence, larger canvas and S Pen that define Samsung’s top-end model, while the Pro appears to package much of that premium identity into something easier to hold and pocket. If these CAD renders accurately represent the final hardware, Samsung isn’t merely adding another size to the Galaxy S27 lineup — it’s effectively creating a compact Ultra alternative, with the same new design language but fewer of the features that make the Ultra so large.
